Are We A Fit?

We work with changemakers who inspire us every day: teachers, principals, counselors, district leaders, program officers, parents, youth, and community leaders.

Our clients share our own deep-seated commitment to equity and justice in our educational  ecosystems.

They recognize that change is hard work.

We probably share similar views on important things:

  • Kids aren’t the problem. Kids don’t need to be “fixed”; it’s our job as adults to set up systems and practices to help them thrive.

  • Equity matters. We need to be working for all kids. And we need to look closely to make sure we’re not missing someone.

  • Serve the whole child. Our job in schools and organizations is to support the whole child’s development, not just their academic learning.

  • People and systems can change. We can learn, grow, and improve. We work to bring out the best in ourselves and others.

We may have some other things in common:

  • You have a towering stack of books by the side of your bed that deep down you know you’ll never have enough time to read (but there’s SO MUCH out there to learn!)

  • Your stack of books might include authors like Elena Aguilar, Shawn Ginwright, Zaretta Hamond, Bettina Love, bell hooks, Paulo Freire, Michael Fullan, Peter Senge, and Tony Bryk.

  • You feel like if you and Brené Brown met, you’d be great friends.

  • You love a good chart, table, or infographic.

  • Art, poetry, music, or nature sometimes makes you tear up.

  • You geek out on organizational improvement and personal growth. You’ve probably read From Good to Great, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and know what your Enneagram or Myers-Briggs type is.

  • You have some kind of reflective or self-care practice: meditation, prayer, morning pages, yoga, dance, or running.

  • You are the kind of person who if you see some litter on the ground, you’re likely to pick it up.

  • You love a good to-do list. But you also like to have a sense of the big picture, the deeper “why” behind your actions.

  • Your preference is to step back from the spotlight and take your ego out of what needs to be done. You feel best when you’re  helping others succeed.

  • You believe culture matters and our differences make us better. You possibly have some kind of cross-cultural experience or identity. Maybe you lived or worked in another culture, speak another language, or have a multicultural identity. You have felt like an insider and an outsider.

We do things a little differently:

  • We have deep subject-matter expertise, and we make space for, honor, and integrate the expertise of our partners and collaborators.

  • We don’t offer plug-and-play programs; our focus is on collaboration, co-creation, and building long-term capacity in the organizations with which we work.

  • We are deeply committed to ongoing reflection and evaluation of our projects as we go, leading to work that is tailored to the needs of our clients. Bonus: it also helps make sure we’re “walking the talk” and helping our partners to do the same.
